Sun, 20 Apr 2008 14:05:48 PDT
I attended PodCampDC (see above) this Saturday and the most interesting session for me was by Andy Carvin of National Public Radio (NPR) and Jim Long of NBC News. Carvin and Long discussed the value of Qik and Twitter for news gathering. Also, I had a brief but interesting conversation with Carvin after the presentation. Carvin is the senior product manager for NPR’s “Community.” He’s a champion of blogging, social networks and camera phones. He’s a blogger, has a Twitter account, uses U

Fri, 18 Apr 2008 23:36:36 PDT
We knew those live tabletop computer interfaces like Microsoft surface and the Linux-based MPX multi-touch table were going to change the way we looked at computers but to be honest even I never imagined that the technology would be adapted for gambling and casino purposes before it hit museums. WE GET A good group of commenters here in Sticksville. Lately, we've been hearing quite a bit from a young woman from the Prairies, who has an openminded attitude toward Canadian shows, and an engaged and passionate way of defending them. On the subject of all the changes going on at the CBC, I think she's expressed the necessary corrective point of view better than Richard Stursberg, Kirstine Leyfield, or anybody else at the public broadcaster has managed to do. So I'm bumping her comment here

Safari users to be blocked from using PayPal

In the last year or two, I’ve started doing a lot of my monetary transactions via a little site called PayPal. I’m sure that if you’ve used eBay at all, you have yourself a PayPal account. Unfortunately for Mac users, if you use Safari as your primary browser, you’re going to have some issues accessing the site. If you didn’t know, Safari doesn’t include any anti-phishing technologies, unlike FireFox and IE. PayPal frowns very much upon this, and has decided that they will soon begin blockin

Enlightenment: You and Me and China make Three

Sat, 19 Apr 2008 22:45:21 PDT
I have been reading the book: The Writing on the Wall. Mr. Will Hutton is the author. The book is billed as a look at what makes China tick and what the west should do about it. I chose it on the strength of the reviews as I wanted to learn more about China in regard to our discussions concerning globalization. I also wanted to hear a voice not from the US. Mr. Hutton is very established in the economic world in England. Maybe he is their Mr. Krugman? You can read a summary regarding the subj
